As cited from the official FRC website "We call FIRST Robotics Competition the ultimate Sport for the Mind. High-school student participants call it “the hardest fun you’ll ever have.” Under strict rules, limited time and resources, teams of students are challenged to raise funds, design a team "brand," hone teamwork skills, and build and program industrial-size robots to play a difficult field game against like-minded competitors. It’s as close to real-world engineering as a student can get. Volunteer professional mentors lend their time and talents to guide each team. Each season ends with an exciting FIRST Championship."
FRC is much more than robotics competition to me, it has helped guide me and shape me into the engineer and leader that I am today. I started FRC my freshman year of high school (2015). I always had an interest in robotics but never found a way to explore it. I got involved with my high school's team, Team 1741 Red Alert Robotics based out of Center Grover, and then began to learn all kinds of new skills and ideas. After 4 years on my high school team, along came graduation, and time to leave the program as a student. After being left inspired and motivated to do engineering, I decided to help give others students the same opportunity I had to be inspired. I then started Team 7457, suPURDUEper Robotics, based out of Purdue Polytechnic Highschool in Indianapolis. Since then I have been involved with team working to inspire students by giving them the experience they need to grow. I've worked with over a 100 of students throughout 4 years, and through this also hardened my engineering mind and design skills.
